Animal Law Research Guide

In March 2022 the Bora Laskin Law Library launched the Animal Law Research Guide (“RG”), consisting of lists of sources (books, chapters, book reviews, theses, journal articles, legislation, leading cases, reports, podcasts and documentaries) in Canadian animal law. The RG is perfect for students looking for a research paper topic and getting started in their literature review or for more senior scholars looking for orientation in terms of sources available in Canadian animal law.

This research resource is available for use to members both inside and outside the University of Toronto community through the Law Library’s website.

In 2025, the RG grew to include the following “Hot Topics”: Pet Custody; Ag-gag; Veganism and Discrimination; Personhood; and Wills and Estates, as well as a new a page providing a list of journals, which can help those looking to publish animal law scholarship.
