Working Group on Animals in the Law and Humanities Presents:
Guest: Jeff Sebo
Title: The Moral Circle: Who Matters, What Matters, and Why.
Summary: Human exceptionalism drives vast exploitation of animals and, soon, AI. Jeff Sebo argues we should include all significant beings—vertebrates, many invertebrates, and some future AIs—in our moral community, transforming how we live and relate to others.
Bio: Jeff is Associate Professor of Environmental Studies and Affiliated Professor of Bioethics, Medical Ethics, Philosophy, and Law at New York University. He directs both the Center for Environmental and Animal Protection and the Center for Mind, Ethics, and Policy, and co-directs the Wild Animal Welfare Program. He serves on the board of Minding Animals International, advises Eleos AI and the Insect Welfare Research Society, and was named to Vox’s Future Perfect 50 list of “thinkers, innovators, and changemakers working to make the future a better place.”
