Legal Education Sessions for Community Groups
Downtown Legal Services is glad to work with front-line agencies and community groups to offer plain-language workshops on legal topics. Community partners who have booked workshops with us in the past include seniors' groups, tenants' associations, supportive housing programs, cultural organizations, shelters, and Indigenous advocacy groups.
We can organize sessions on any of the following subjects (or sub-topics within them):
- Criminal law;
- Refugee and immigration law;
- Employment law;
- Housing and tenants' rights;
- Family law;
- Income security law (OW, ODSP, OAS/CPP/GIS);
- Wills, powers of attorney, and substitute decision-making;
- Prison law.
We can also tailor legal education sessions to different groups (newcomers to Canada, young people, social workers . . .)
Please note that if your group is located outside of the Greater Toronto Area, we may redirect you to legal clinics or other resources available to you locally.
