Trudo Lemmens named Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences
Trudo Lemmens, a professor and Scholl Chair in Health Law and Policy at the Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Law, has been named a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
Among the highest honours for members of the Canadian health sciences community, CAHS Fellows are elected for their demonstrated leadership, creativity, distinctive competencies, commitment to advancing health sciences and contributions to advancing inclusivity, diversity, equity and accessibility in Canada.
Lemmens is cross-appointed to U of T’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health, Temerty Faculty of Medicine and the Joint Centre for Bioethics. His research focuses on the interaction between law, governance mechanisms and ethical norms and values in health care, including biomedical research, health product development as well as knowledge dissemination.
His most recent work focuses on issues related to human rights, disability rights and health. He is co-editor of the volume, Unravelling MAiD in Canada: Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide as Medical Care (McGill University Press, 2025). Lemmens is also a Fellow of the Hastings Center, a nonpartisan U.S.-based bioethics research institution.
“As a leading scholar of health law and policy, we’re thrilled to see Trudo’s work celebrated at the national level,” said University Professor Jutta Brunnée, dean of the Faculty of Law and James Marshall Tory Dean’s Chair. “This well-deserved recognition by the CAHS reflects the importance of his research and contributions to public dialogue.”
