We’re proud to highlight Professor David Dyzenhaus, recipient of the 2025 Killam Prize in Social Sciences.
A University Professor of Law and Philosophy at the University of Toronto, Professor Dyzenhaus is internationally recognized for his influential scholarship on the rule of law, constitutionalism, and the moral foundations of legal authority. His work explores how the principles of legality shape democratic societies, particularly in times of political or institutional stress.
Awarded annually by the National Research Council Canada, the Killam Prize is one of the country’s most prestigious recognitions of scholarly excellence. Professor Dyzenhaus’s selection reflects his far-reaching contributions to legal thought and his impact on generations of students, scholars, and practitioners.
“David’s contributions to legal philosophy and his work defending the rule of law globally have influenced generations of scholars,” said Dean Jutta Brunnée, James Marshall Tory Dean’s Chair of the Faculty of Law. “This recognition underscores the remarkable impact of his research.”
Earlier this year, Professor Dyzenhaus was recognized for his outstanding contributions to legal philosophy and the study of the rule of law. Recently, Massey College hosted a special celebration to honour this achievement — congratulations once again, Professor Dyzenhaus!
The Faculty of Law congratulates Professor Dyzenhaus on this well-deserved honour.
