Public Interest Recruit Timeline

Our Chapter's volunteer opportunities are available through the University of Toronto Faculty of Law Public Interest Recruit. 

Please note that there are two recruiting rounds and upper years are only eligible for the second round. If you are an upper year interested an upper year only project, contact probonostudents.utoronto@gmail.com.
 

Important Programming Dates

Round 1 - Open to 1Ls Only

  • September 11 (10 AM) - Application form opens
  • September 15 (10 AM) - Application form closes
  • September 18 (12:30 PM) - Offers extended
  • September 18 (3 PM) - Offer accept/decline deadline

Round 2 - Open to all years

  • September 19 (11 AM) - Application form opens
  • September 22 (12:30 PM) - Application form closes
  • September 23 (12:30 PM) - Offers extended
  • September 23 (2 PM) - Offer accept/decline deadline
     

Application Instructions

  1. Explore Our Projects: PBSC offers a variety of exciting opportunities to get involved and make a difference in the community.
  2. Rank the top five projects that interest you most.
  3. Share a short 100-word Statement of Interest about how your skills and experiences connect to the projects you have chosen.
  4. Confirm that you’re able to meet PBSC’s basic volunteer requirements for the year.

Helpful Tips:

You are encouraged to apply for all placements you are interested in, irrespective of experience. Use your statement of interest to concisely explain why you would be a good fit!

Basic Requirements

  • Commit 3–5 hours per week from October to March (with a break in December).
  • Attend the PBSC General Training Session.
  • Complete the pre-recorded Anti-Oppression training.
  • Take part in any additional project-specific training.
  • Join brief check-in calls once per semester (November and February).
  • Log your hours using PBSC’s spreadsheet.
  • Fill out our end-of-year survey.

    Optional but strongly recommended: Attend the Bora Laskin Law Library’s research seminars to build your skills in navigating databases like Westlaw, LexisNexis, and CanLII.
