Borrow a book
Your U of T student identification card (TCard) is your library card. TCards are issued to you during Orientation.
Lost your card? Visit the TCard Office website to find out how to get a replacement card.
NCA students can get a reader/limited access card from U of T Libraries’ Reader Registration Desk, (2nd Floor, Robarts Library). Bring your admissions document, your offer letter and a valid photo ID.
You can borrow items from our Stacks (1st floor) collection for up to two weeks if you are a JD student, or for up to 3 months if you are a LLM, SJD, or GPLLM student.
All students can borrow items from our Course Reserves and Short-Term Loan collection (behind the main library desk) for up to 3 hours.
Learn more about borrowing periods at U of T Libraries.
You will be charged $0.50/day if you return regular items past their due date. If you return short-term loan or course reserve items past their due date and time, you will be charged $0.50/hour that they are late. If you lose or damage an item, you will be charged a fee. Learn more about library fines and fees at U of T.
Our library no longer accepts in-person payment for fines. You must pay your library fines online.
You can place a hold on a book when logged into the library catalogue. If a book is on loan, you can recall it, and the borrower must return it within 14 days. For more information on holds and recalls, see U of T Libraries’ Borrow library resources page.
You can request an interlibrary loan when logged into the library catalogue. For more information on the Interlibrary Loan service and turnaround times, visit U of T Libraries’ Request items from other institutions (ILL) page.

Students can book up to two sessions at a time, with a limit of one booking per day and a maximum of two hours per session to ensure fair access.
No eating is allowed in the study rooms. Students must follow the Library Code of Conduct.

Technology in the library
Our copier/printer/scanner and book scanners are found on Level 2 (main floor) near the washrooms.
Use your TCard to copy or print. To print, send your print job from a library computer or from your personal laptop. Scroll down to learn how to set up wireless printing at our library.
Photocopying, printing, and scanning to paper costs 10 cents per page. Scanning to a USB key is free.
Before using our library’s printers, you must install the U of T’s printer software and drivers to your laptop:
- Windows users must follow Windows printing instructions.
- Mac users must follow Mac OS printing instructions for Law Library printers. Important: If the printer is not set up correctly, your print job will empty the paper tray!
If you experience issues after following the instructions, visit the IT Help Desk in the library.
The IT Help Desk can help you access the U of T and Eduroam networks.
The UofT Wireless Network is used by current U of T students and employees. The Eduroam Network is used by visiting scholars from participating institutions, but U of T faculty and students can access Eduroam at other universities using U of T credentials.
For more information, visit the IT Help Desk or view the Campus Wireless page about accessing U of T’s wireless network and Eduroam.
Access computers in our Info Commons space on the library’s main floor using your U of T credentials. You can also connect your laptop to a workstation, which includes a full-sized monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Exam files are posted to the SharePoint site as we receive them from the Law Records Office.
Please note: Prior to September 2014 all first-year courses were full-year courses, which had one-hour practice exams in December that only dealt with materials covered in first term and then final exams in April. Starting in September 2014, all first-year courses were semesterized: some courses had final exams in December, others in April.
