About the Asper Centre Constitutional Advocacy Clinic
The cornerstone of the Asper Centre is a legal education clinic that brings together law students, faculty and members of the bar to work on significant constitutional cases and advocacy initiatives. The Asper Centre Fall Clinic Course is co-taught by the Asper Centre Executive Director and the Constitutional Litigator in Residence—a leading member of the constitutional litigation bar. The course offers students hands-on experience alongside expert guidance on constitutional litigation, from strategy to advocacy.
The Asper Centre Clinic offers the following for-credit courses for upper year students at the Jackman Faculty of Law:
Clinical Legal Education: The David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights (LAW391H1F): This Fall term course offers up to 10 students the opportunity to engage in Charter rights advocacy, including but not limited to litigation, under the supervision of experienced lawyers.
Clinical Legal Education: The David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights (Practicum – LAW392H1S): This Winter term course is open only to students who have taken the first term clinical course in order to complete ongoing projects for 1-2 credits.
Clinical Legal Education: The David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights (Half Term Clinic – LAW729H1S): This Winter term course gives one student the opportunity to work intensely in the Asper Centre for 15 hours per week for a total of 6 credits.
