Accessibility

The law school is committed to supporting students with disabilities, both on-going and temporary.

The University of Toronto’s Accessibility Services provides a wide variety of services for U of T Students with disabilities. All students experiencing an ongoing, documented illness or disability, must register with Accessibility Services to receive academic accommodations during their program. The law school is committed to supporting our students with disabilities. We work closely with Accessibility Services to ensure the needs of students are met in a way that allows them to pursue academic interests and goals while fully participating in the U of T law community.

The services Accessibility Services can provide include:

  • Learning disability assessments
  • Adaptive technology assessments
  • Adaptive equipment
  • Learning strategy support
  • Test and examination accommodations
  • Note taking services
  • Sign language interpreters; computer note taking
  • Advice and information on disability issues
  • Liaison to University and off-campus agencies
  • Campus transportation (St. George campus only)

We encourage students to register with Accessibility Services if they identify with any of the following disability categories:

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Brain Injury or Concussion
  • Chronic Health Issues (for example, Bowel Diseases, Epilepsy, Migraines)
  • Deaf / Hard of Hearing
  • Learning Disability
  • Mental Health – both permanent and temporary (for example, Anxiety, Depression, Schizophrenia, Eating Disorders)
  • Mobility / Functional Issues
  • Low Vision / Legally Blind
  • Temporary Issues (for example, Broken limbs)

Please note that registering with Accessibility Services does not obligate students to avail themselves of the accommodations recommended (if any), but will ensure that students have supports in place should they need them.

A series of four short Student Life videos developed by the Accessibility Services office provides information about Accessibility Services, and how and why students should register. In addition, the Accessibility Services Graduate and Professional Program Handbook offers invaluable information, guidance, and resources to students who are considering registering and those already registered with Accessibility Services.

If you have any questions about the process of registering with Accessibility Services or about accommodation or require assistance, please contact Accessibility Services at accessibility.services@utoronto.ca or 416-978-8060. You can also contact the GPLLM Program team at accommodations.gpllm@utoronto.ca if you need help or have questions about registering with Accessibility Services.

The law school also administers an Academic Accommodations process to support students who are experiencing a temporary illness or disability or an extraordinary personal circumstance and are not otherwise registered with Accessibility Services. If you require an Academic Accommodation due to a temporary illness or disability, or an extraordinary personal circumstance (e.g. death in the family), you must request the accommodation through the law school.
