Graduate Academic Supports

Our faculty and staff are dedicated to guiding you throughout your learning experience at U of T Law. 

The Faculty of Law, and U of T at large, offer a wide-range of thoughtfully designed resources to ensure personalized guidance and support for your academic and professional success. We encourage you to take advantage of the different programs offered at the University of Toronto to support your academic journey. 

Faculty of Law Supports

SJD Advisors

In addition to their faculty supervisors thesis LLM students are assigned an SJD advisors. SJD Advisors provide an anchor for LLM thesis students, ensuring that they have a peer academic mentor with whom they can discuss the joys and tribulations of academic work, and that they are making progress in their research and writing and adhering to the timelines set by the graduate program.

Workshops

The Faculty of Law offer a wide-range of workshops every year. From academic workshops on emerging legal issues, to career-oriented workshops. In addition, graduate students are provided the opportunity to establish their own student-led workshops, based on their specific interest and needs.

Bora Laskin Law Library

The Bora Laskin Law Library supports the teaching, learning, and research needs of students and faculty at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law. Its extensive collection includes primary legal materials from the major common law countries such as Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom as well as from other selected jurisdictions. The Library also subscribes to a rich array of electronic services which extend the Library's resources far beyond its own walls. Our librarians can help you with your research either in-person, by email and phone.

School of Graduate Studies Supports

Graduate Centre for Academic Communication

The School of Graduate Studies offers academic English language support through the Graduate Centre for Academic Communication (GCAC). There are free, non-credit courses, workshops and individual writing consultations to both native and non-native speakers of English. Courses and individual consultations are geared specifically to graduate students and provide advanced training in academic writing and speaking. You are welcome to register for the courses that best suit your needs.

Centre for Learning Strategy Support

The Centre uses evidence-based practices and programs to help students reach their academic potential. They offer 1:1 support with learning strategists, workshops, mentorship, productivity groups and more.
