Course Enrollment
ach year, the Faculty of Law offers more than 100 courses from which students can choose, including graduate seminars, large lecture courses, and more. To review our course offering for the current academic year, please visit our Course List page.
Notes:
- Graduate students are not allowed to enroll in first-year JD courses.
- LLM, MSL and SJD program are not allowed to enroll in courses offered in the GPLLM program.
- Pre-requisites and co-requisites do not apply to graduate students. However, students are encouraged to take pre-requisites and co-requisites into consideration when choosing their courses – as knowledge of these subjects will be assumed.
Taking Courses in Other Divisions
Students in our LLM and SJD programs are able to enroll in as many as two graduate courses offered in cognate divisions at the university. Students interested in taking advantage of this opportunity must obtain the approval of the department offering the course, and complete the SGS Add/Drop form. The request must also be approved by Associate or Assistant Dean, Graduate Programs before you will be enrolled in the course(s).
Auditing Courses
Graduate students are not permitted to audit courses at the law school, with one exception. Thesis students who are unable to enroll in a course that is directly relevant to their research may apply to audit the course instead. Supervisor and Associate or Assistant Dean approval is required.
To request authorization to audit a course a student will need to complete the Auditing Request form indicating the reasons they want to audit the course and how it is connected to their research.
Note:
Approval in principle does not guarantee that auditing will be possible. Auditing is conditional upon permission from the instructor and availability of space in the class (which will not be confirmed until the end of the applicable add/drop period).
