Tailor Your Experience
LLM students design their own learning experience by choosing their preferred balance of thesis work and coursework. With three streams and four concentrations available, you can create a more or less research-intensive program and pursue your degree with or without a concentration. This flexibility lets you tailor the program to match your specific interests and career goals.
The long thesis stream is ideal for students seeking intensive research experience. You'll spend the year conducting in-depth research and writing on a topic of your choice under close faculty supervision and develop advanced scholarly skills essential for academic careers or specialized legal practice.
The short thesis stream combines coursework with research, letting you learn both in the classroom and through independent scholarship. You'll take several courses while also writing a substantial research thesis under faculty supervision, giving you broad exposure to several areas of law alongside the opportunity to develop deep expertise in your chosen area.
The coursework stream offers broad exposure to advanced legal topics through extensive course selection with no thesis requirement. You'll develop advanced research and writing skills through dedicated graduate seminars while maintaining full control over your areas of study, allowing you to explore multiple legal fields in depth.

Through established partnerships LLM students can access collaborative programs across the university to gain a interdisciplinary perspective. We currently offer four collaborative specializations: Bioethics, Global Health, Jewish Studies, Sexual Diversity Studies, and Women and Gender Studies.
