Our graduate program offers an unparalleled student experience: the quality of supervision by our world renowned law school's faculty, our rich and vibrant peer community, and our academic job placement rates are among the best in the world. The University of Toronto is the leading institution from which law professors across Canada hold their terminal graduate degrees in law.

At the Faculty of Law, S.J.D. students are treated as junior scholars. They are given offices, invited to Faculty-only seminars, included in scholarly and social events, including events providing access to world renowned visiting Faculty, giving students the opportunity to actively participate in the academic discourse.

Guaranteed funding

S.J.D. students receive a funding package that is equivalent to $40,000/year, inclusive of tuition, for three years. 

Funding is conditional on satisfactory progress and may be reallocated in accordance with the Faculty's Awards Policy when students are in receipt of large external or university-wide awards

Doctoral streams

Our doctoral program offers two streams: the S.J.D and the S.J.D Direct-Entry.
