Master of Studies in Law (MSL) Program

The M.S.L. program is a one year, intensive masters degree for scholars from disciplines other than law who whish to obtain a substantive education in the foundational areas of law to be able to add a legal lends to their research and scholarship.

The M.S.L. is a unique masters degree for scholars who hold a graduate degree – ideally a doctorate – and have exceptional scholarship in a discipline that intersects with law. The program often attracts faculty on sabbatical who are wish to broaden their perspectives and apply foundational legal education to their areas of expertise. 

M.S.L. students obtain a sustentive legal education by participating in J.D. classes, graduate seminars, faculty workshops and academic talks.

M.S.L. Program Requirements

Not a path to become a lawyer

The M.S.L. program does not in itself qualify graduates to practice law in Canada. It is designed exclusively for scholars and academics in other disciplines without previous legal education

The M.S.L .is not a bridge to the JD program and applicants should not take this degree with the expectation that course credits will be transferable to any other program.
