Jagtaran Singh

Overview

Jagtaran Singh is legal counsel at the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC), where his practice focuses on strategic public interest litigation and advice on human rights matters. He is counsel lead of the OHRC's work on artificial intelligence and human rights. Jagtaran worked on the OHRC's inquiry into racial profiling and discrimination against Black persons by the Toronto Police Service, and has appeared before various tribunals and courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

Jagtaran previously served as Executive Advisor to then-OHRC Chief Commissioner (now Justice) Renu Mandhane. Before that he was Senior Advisor to Attorney General and Government House Leader of Ontario, Hon. Yasir Naqvi, where he advised on legislative and procedural matters and assisted in the passage of legislation through the Legislative Assembly.

Jagtaran began his career as a litigator at a national law firm in Toronto, before completing his LL.M. at Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. While in New York, Jagtaran worked as an advisor to the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations. He holds a B.C.L./LL.B. from McGill University and a B.A. from the University of Toronto.
