Serving the public interest
The majority of our students utilize their budding knowledge and skills to engage in pro bono initiatives and make an impact in our community within weeks of starting their law school journey.
Public-interest volunteer placements: This is guaranteed for all interested first-year (1L) students through our public-interest matching process, which connects them with opportunities in our in-house clinics and programs. Volunteer roles are also available for upper-year and graduate-level students, allowing them to contribute meaningfully to public service while building practical skills.
1L students interested in volunteering with the Asper Centre, DLS, FLL, IHRP, IPP, LAWS, or PBSC must complete the Round One application form, available in mid-September. This form allows students to rank up to five preferred opportunities. Placement offers will be made shortly after the form closes. Round Two opens soon after and is open to all students, including upper-year JD and graduate students. This round provides additional opportunities to get involved in meaningful public-interest work.
For-credit opportunities
We offer a wide spectrum of opportunities that support students to hone real-world skills while supporting their professional and academic development.
These opportunities are covered in more detail throughout our website, but they are an essential part of the dynamic legal education we offer.
Leading through innovation
Experiential learning at Jackman Law is grounded in a strong academic foundation. Our faculty members work across every conceivable area of law, taking cutting-edge legal and interdisciplinary approaches that expand the world of ideas and foster social change. This innovative, cross-category thinking anchors a vibrant intellectual community and learning experience - one that is recognized across Canada and around the world.
We emphasize the integration of practical experience with academic frameworks. Reflection is a key component, allowing students to consolidate their learning and connect hands-on work with core legal principles.
