Our Faculty is a place of encounter–between extraordinary people, ideas, and the world around us. It is this coming together that makes the Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Law what it is: an intellectual home as well as a global force.
At Jackman Law, a broad range of extracurricular activities enrich the classroom and clinical experiences. Whether exploring professional interests, volunteering with pro bono initiatives, or socializing at the law school cafe, students engage in a vast array of activities beyond the classroom.

Message from the dean
Our law school is a place of encounter – between extraordinary people, ideas, and the world around us. It is this coming together that makes Jackman Law what it is: an intellectual home as well as a global force. Being part of one of the world’s leading research-intensive universities and located in one of the world’s most diverse cities, Jackman Law is Canada’s global law school.
Our distinctive scholarly ethos and approach to legal education is fueled by rigorous, analytical, critical, cross-category and cross-disciplinary thinking, undergirded by a commitment to inclusive excellence and a strong sense of community.
We are animated by the conviction that true excellence is inclusive — it flourishes in an environment that seeks out and embraces the broadest range of perspectives. We aim to provide leadership through innovative scholarship and legal education, JD and graduate programs, fuelled by the diversity and vibrancy of our community and by engagement with the broadest range of perspectives and ideas in our research, teaching and learning.
Innovation, engagement and thought leadership matter as global crises intersect with manifold domestic challenges. The rule of law — foundational to democratic societies — is coming under pressure domestically and internationally, at the very same time as rapid technological change, notably generative artificial intelligence (AI), is impacting the law and the legal profession. Rarely have so many challenges converged, testing our ability to plan under conditions of both complexity and uncertainty, and to ensure that individuals, institutions and societies can thrive.
More than ever, societies need rigorous as well as agile and versatile legal professionals and thinkers, as the law will play a crucial role at this time of profound transformation.
