Overview
University Professor Jutta Brunnée, Dean of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and James Marshall Tory Dean’s Chair, began her teaching career at McGill University’s Faculty of Law (1990-1995), from where she moved to the University of British Columbia's Peter A. Allard School of Law from 1995 to 2000. In August 2000, Dean Professor Brunnée joined U of T Law in 2000. She has held the Metcalf Chair in Environmental Law (2002-2020) and served in additional administrative capacities, such as Associate Dean, Graduate Studies (2006; 2008; 2010-2014; 2017) and Interim Dean (2014) prior to becoming Dean in 2021. In 2020, Dean Brunnée was appointed University Professor, U of T's highest and most distinguished academic rank.

Research
Dean Brunnée’s teaching and research interests are in the areas of Public International Law, International Environmental Law and International Legal Theory. She has published extensively in each of these areas. Her current research agenda explores the role of international legality and legal practices in mediating between stability and change in international law.
