Kathrin Gardhouse

Kathrin Gardhouse is a Senior AI Governance Associate at The Future Society and the Policy Lead of AI Governance and Safety Canada in which roles she advises policymakers on catastrophic risks from general-purpose and agentic AI and appropriate regulatory and policy responses. She serves as Board Member and Secretary at AI Governance and Safety Canada and Trajectory Labs, a coworking and events space in downtown Toronto with the mission is to catalyze Toronto’s role in steering AI progress toward a future of human flourishing. Kathrin is also a mentor at the Cambridge ERA:AI Fellowship, where she supervises work on legal alignment and general-purpose AI Code of Practice compliance.

As a 2025 Summer Research Fellow at the Institute for Law and AI, she contributed to a legal commentary to the EU AI Act, writing about the AI Office's enforcement powers. In previous roles, Kathrin worked in data protection and AI governance consulting as well as at two Toronto-based AI startups as a legal researcher, privacy evangelist, and external data protection officer. Kathrin is a Germany- and Ontario-trained lawyer and holds a philosophy PhD from McMaster University. She is certified by the IAPP as an Information Protection and AI Governance Professional.
