Law of Work

Law of Work governs the workplace and the relationship between employees and employers.

Employment law focuses on individual rights, addressing issues like wages, discrimination, workplace safety, and wrongful termination.

Labour law deals with collective issues, including union rights, collective bargaining, and the resolution of labor disputes.

Courses

Students in upper years may take the substantive course in Law of Work which surveys the law regulating work, including the common law, statutory regulation of the employment relationship, collective bargaining law and equality and human rights law at work.

Additional opportunities to study the law of work are available through an advanced course in Workplace Equality and competitive moot in Labour Arbitration.

Beyond the classroom

Students may also obtain practical experience through the Employment Clinic at Downtown Legal Services.
