Philosophical Approaches to Law explore the structure and normative underpinnings of legal doctrine, such as criminal law, torts, contracts, property, constitutional law, administrative law and international law.
Our scholars are renowned for this distinctive approach, which takes the law as its starting point, drawing both on contemporary philosophy and key figures in the history of philosophy in order to make sense of it.
Faculty members in the law and philosophy cluster are widely cited by both courts and commentators. They also have close ties with other disciplines within U of T, including philosophy, political science, criminology, computer science, and global affairs & public policy.
