LLM Seminar I

This course introduces students to the basics of academic legal research. Working from each student’s initial research topic, we will focus on the transition from a topic to a question, situating a proposal within existing scholarship, and learn the basics of becoming an informed consumer of empirical and normative scholarship. The course will proceed by means of structured writing exercises, peer feedback, oral presentations, and one-on-one interviews. At the end of the semester, students will have a developed research proposal of their own, be able to explain it to others, and be proficient at evaluating proposals across a wide range of legal scholarship.
