How to Respond to Your JD Offer in OLSAS

Step 1: Sign in to your OLSAS account.

Firm Accept

• Confirms your acceptance of U of T
• You will not be considered by any other Ontario law schools, regardless of their admission timelines.

Provisional Accept

• Confirms your acceptance of U of T while keeping you under consideration at other Ontario law schools with active offers or pending decisions.
• Available until August 1. After this date, any provisional accept automatically becomes a firm accept (see OLSAS Important Dates).
• If you applied only to U of T, this option will not appear—only Firm Accept will be available.

Step 5: Finalize Your Response

• On the OLSAS webpage, complete the ‘Review & Submit’ step on the left-hand menu.

AFTER accepting your Offer of Admission, you must submit a non-refundable tuition deposit to confirm your place at the university.

• The deposit will be applied to your first session (term) tuition.
• A Tuition Deposit Form is included in your Offer of Admission package.
• Your Offer of Admission may be cancelled if the deposit is not received by the stated deadline in your offer letter and tuition deposit form.

The deposit amount depends on your federal immigration status in Canada at the time of payment:

Domestic Students

• $500 CAD, payable online by credit card only via ACORN.

International Students

• $2,000 CAD, payable online by credit card only via ACORN.
• This amount is mandated by the Province of Ontario for issuing a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL), required for your Study Permit application.

Payment Details

• Credit card only (VISA or MasterCard accepted).
• A non-refundable convenience fee of 2.5% (approx. $12.50) will be added. Subject to change.
• Payment must be made through your ACORN account, accessed using your JOINid or UTORid.

New Students to U of T

New students to U of T will be issued a temporary JOINid username. Your JOINid will need to be converted to your permanent UTORid. 

The JD Admissions Office will email:

• Your U of T Student Number
• Your JOINid username
• Activation instructions

New students: Visit Get Your UTORid & TCard for instructions.

Continuing/Returning U of T Students

• If you already have a UTORid, use it instead of the JOINid.
• With a UTORid, there is no need to activate a JOINid.

⚠️ Important Login Notice

If you attempt to access U of T online services not related to new law admits, you may receive login error messages. Do not assume your JOINid is malfunctioning. After enabling your JOINid, test it only by logging into ACORN—do not use other e-services.

About ACORN

ACORN is the Student Web Services (SWS) portal for managing your student record. It allows you to:

• Update contact information
• View grades
• Check program fees and payments
• Add emergency contacts

Accessing ACORN

Within 5–7 business days after accepting your Offer of Admission:

1. Verify your tuition deposit
2. Verify your mailing and contact information
3. Add Emergency Contacts

Please Note: Your JOINid must be enabled to use ACORN.

UTMail+ Activation

• Deadline: Activate your UTmail+ by July 2 2026.

UTmail+ is the university’s official email for all student communications and must be activated before you can obtain your U of T T-Card.

Convert Your JOINid to UTORid

• New students: Visit Get Your UTORid & TCard for instructions.
• Returning/Re-registering students or alumni: Continue using your existing UTORid.
  • If you forgot your UTORid or it is inactive, see the TCard website for assistance.

After conversion, you will receive UTmail+ activation instructions. Once activated, login at: mail.utoronto.ca

TCard (Student Card)

• Your official U of T student card is issued only after you have obtained your UTORid.
• Deadline: Get your card no later than August 25.
• If you have not been a U of T student for two or more years, you must:
  • Provide a new photo
  • Verify legal immigration status

JD admits who require a Study Permit, are responsible for checking with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), to determine whether a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) is required for their permit application. 

Act Early

The sooner you obtain your PAL, the sooner you can apply for your Study Permit. Do not wait for our listed deadlines—processing time for a properly submitted permit application is at least 12 weeks (3 months). Take action as soon as you are certain you wish to enroll in the JD program.

Once you have confirmed you require a PAL, all the following MUST be attained: 

1. Receive your JD Offer of Admission package, which includes Letter of Admission (LOA) and a notice of admission with the estimated cost of required education fees and the UofT designated learning institution (DLI) number
2. Accept your Offer of Admission at OLSAS
3. Pay the acceptance tuition deposit via ACORN
4. Email the JD Admissions Office to inform us of your payment and to request the PAL.

Once steps 1-4 are completed, starting from January 22 2026:

• The university will be able to request automatically, the 2026 entry PAL from the Ontario government.
• It can take as many as three business days for the university to receive an approved PAL.
• Once the PAL is received at the university, the JD Admissions Office will email the PAL to our JD admits. 

Please note the Canadian JD is an Undergraduate Bachelor degree, regardless of its title "Juris Doctor".

Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents

• Expected to apply for:
  • Provincial government student financial aid programs
  • Jackman Law JD Student Financial Aid program

International Students

• Students on an immigration Study Permit:
  • Not eligible for Canadian government student financial aid or the Jackman Law JD Student Financial Aid program.
  • Encouraged to seek aid from other sources, such as local government programs.

Apply for Provincial Student Aid

• You must also apply separately for student aid funding from your Canadian province as soon as applications open in spring/summer 

Apply for Jackman Law JD Student Financial Aid

• As soon as possible, after you have accepted your offer of admission and activated your UTORid.
• Deadlines:  
  • For offer letters dated before July 1:
    Application due no later than July 20, 2026.
  • For offer letters dated after July 1:
    Application due within two weeks of the offer letter date.

Upper year course enrolment for new and returning JD students will begin on July 23 2026.

The Records Office at Jackman Law handles course enrolment solely, and will send access information for the course enrolment system and general enrolment instructions and reminders by email. 

Change Your Student Status to ‘Registered’

This step updates your student status from ‘Invited’ to ‘Registered’. Newly admitted students become registered by either submitting their minimum payment or requesting a fee deferral.

Submit Your Minimum Payment 

To be officially registered, a Minimum Payment is due by July 31. Please visit Payment Options for additional information. 

Request a Fee Deferral

By request only, a deferral of this payment may be permitted for eligible students receiving external student aid (e.g., government student aid). Please visit the Deferring Your Tuition Fees website for additional information. 

Tuition Payment Deadlines

• Official tuition fees and invoices for 2026–2027 are expected to be posted online no earlier than July 13.
• Fees are billed by academic session (term), not by individual course or credit.
