Law School Access Program

Law School Start Date

You are fully committed to writing the LSAT in Fall 2026 (September-November), for admission to start law school in Fall 2027.

Educational Background

You are currently in the 3rd, 4th or final year of an undergraduate degree program at an accredited university/college or you graduated with a university/college degree in, or after 2024.

Academic Performance

Your cumulative average on all undergraduate courses completed to date, from all years of study is at least a mid-B (on your school's grading scale).

You satisfy one of the following applicant categories (one of 1-4)

1. Your immediate family is a low-income family in Canada. 

   Your immigration status in Canada is one of: Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person or convention refugee.

   The criterion is the income level of the family, not the individual. See Table 1 of the Federal Income Scales (Quebec only | rest of Canada) to determine if your family may be low-income.

   In order to be considered for the UofT LSAP, you must also apply for, and obtain an LSAC Fee Waiver. We advise that you apply for the waiver immediately, ideally by March 1, 2026 since it can take 6 weeks for a complete waiver application to be processed. The fee waiver application will require the submission of financial documents for Canadians such as government student loan assessments and tax assessments of parents/guardians.

2. You are an Indigenous person of Canada

   Persons with Indigenous heritage including First Nations, Inuit, Métis etc.

   Indigenous persons who are in low-income families must also apply for, and obtain an LSAC Fee Waiver. 

3. You are a graduate of the LAWS high school program

   LAWS graduates who are in low-income families must also apply for, and obtain an LSAC Fee Waiver.

4. You are a current or former member of Black Future Lawyers (BFL)

   BFL members who are in low-income families must also apply for, and obtain an LSAC Fee Waiver.

Open an online account with the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), the independent body that oversees the LSAT. 

You must have an LSAC account number (L number) to complete your U of T LSAP application.

The completed online LSAP application form and supporting documents must be received at the law school by March 31, 2026.

• Academic Transcripts
• Current resume in Word or PDF format
• Personal statement in Word or PDF format
• Submitted proof of receipt of the LSAC Waiver by April 1, 2026

Applications will open on February 1, 2026.

LSAP is free for all participants with an LSAC fee waiver. 

LSAC grants fee waivers to Canadian applicants who submit financial documents such as government student loan assessments and guardian or parent tax assessments indicating that they are members of a low-income family. Be sure to apply for an LSAC fee waiver if you are an Indigenous, LAWS or BFL applicant who also belongs to a low-income family.

A U of T LSAP application form must be supported by a resume, personal statement, and transcripts from every post-secondary institution you have attended.

Personal Statement

• Your interest in the law or becoming a lawyer
• What makes you a strong candidate to obtain a legal education
• A life lesson that has impacted you personally
• If applicable, any obstacles (personal, financial, etc.) to achievement that you may have faced
   

Transcripts

Transcripts must include grades for each course taken and your program’s overall grading scale (transcript legend). Acceptable formats for transcript submission include:

• Unofficial transcripts taken from student record online portals and accompanied by a PDF of the grading scale located in the academic course calendar
• PDFs of hardcopy transcripts
• Official transcripts emailed directly from the school's transcript office

Photos or images of transcript documents or documents sent by standard mail (Canada Post, etc.) will not be accepted.

Application forms become available online on February 1st with a deadline of March 31st for submitting applications.
