Peer Mentorship Program (PMP)
As a first-year student, your upper-year PMP mentor will serve as a source of guidance for both academic and non-academic matters. You’ll be matched with a mentor before you start law school.
How to apply
In the summer before your first-year classes begin, we will invite you to complete an online survey to help match you with an upper-year mentor.
Your responses regarding your interests, goals, educational background etc., will be used to find you the best possible match.
After matching is complete, your mentor will contact you.
The Academic Success Program (ASP) is a peer-led program that offers you academic support as a first-year student. You’ll receive an email from us in late September with information on how to access the program.
Alumni-Student Mentorship Program
The Alumni-Student Mentorship Program connects you with U of T Law alumni working in a variety of legal fields. You can sign up for an alumni mentor through our virtual platform, uoftlawconnect. The benefits of having a mentor include:
- Valuable advice: Mentors offer insight into what it takes to reach your goals. They can guide you, act as a sounding board for ideas, and help you navigate difficult decisions.
- Knowledge and skills development: Mentors help identify the skills you need to succeed and can either teach you or direct you to resources that will expand your expertise.
- Improved communication skills: Being a mentee can enhance your ability to communicate effectively, which is crucial in the legal profession.
- New perspectives: You'll gain fresh ways of thinking from your mentor, while they may also learn from you.
- Networking opportunities: Your mentor can help expand your network of personal and professional contacts. Note, you should not ask, nor is it the job of your mentor to help facilitate any prospective employment.
- Career advancement: With advice, skill-building, and networking support, a mentor can help you stay focused and on track with your career development.
How to apply
Mentorship matches for the 2024/25 academic year are now closed. The program will resume in fall 2025.
You can request informal support from those “willing to help” at uoftlawconnect.ca, at any time.
