Awards by Application
To be awarded to an upper-year JD student with financial need who is a member of a visible minority, a member of the Indigenous community, a member of the LGBTQ community or a student with a physical, psychological or learning disability. Students must be in good standing (a passing grade in all courses).
Call out for applications in January each year.
Prize Value: $2,000
To be awarded to an incoming 2L on the basis of academic excellence and a demonstrated commitment to teamwork as evidenced by their interactions with faculty and fellow students. The Awards Committee will solicit essays from applicants to facilitate its decision-making and may consider the financial situation of the applicants when making a decision.
Call out for applications in May/June each year.

Essay Prizes (by nomination)
To be awarded to an upper year JD student at Jackman Law who produces an essay of exceptional merit on any issue relating to alternative dispute resolution.
Prize Value: $2000
To be awarded to the student who submits the best essay in Family Law to the Jackman Law Review.
Prize Value: $50
To be awarded annually to a student who, in the opinion of the Faculty, merits special recognition for producing a paper of publishable quality in the field of health law. The field of health law shall be broadly defined as including medical jurisprudence; public health law; aspects of social welfare law and family law that relate to access to medical care and related social assistance; and aspects of environmental law that relate to the promotion and protection of the health of individuals and/or society.
Prize Value: approximately $500
To be awarded to a student who writes an outstanding paper on the protection of fundamental freedoms, or a fundamental freedom, under Section 2 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Only students who are awarded an Honours or High Honours grade on the paper are eligible for this prize.

To be awarded annually on the recommendation of the Editorial Board of the Jackman Law Review for the best student contribution to legal scholarship published each year in the Jackman Law Review.

To be awarded to the top current JD student paper applying economic analysis of law to a legal topic.

Awarded to a full-time JD or graduate student who produces and an essay of exceptional merit on any issues relating to legal ethics and/or professional conduct

To be awarded annually to one or more second or third year students for excellence in legal writing.

To be awarded to a two full-time undergraduate students at Jackman Law for excellence in Writing related to Public or Private Law.

In-Course Awards & Prizes
To be awarded to the student taking the highest place in a course(s) concerned with intellectual property - Copyright, Trademark and Patent.
Prize Value: $500
The Burgoyne Award of Excellence, which is the largest, most distinguished awards program presented to JD candidates, is awarded to JD students across all three years, as recommended by faculty members who taught courses during the academic year, and as reviewed by the Associate Dean, JD Program.
Award Value: $1,000
To be awarded to a full-time undergraduate student at Jackman Law. The Craig Carter Prize for Excellence in Real Estate Law will be given to an upper year student of the Law School that shows demonstrated outstanding interest and leadership in real estate law through academic excellence in upper year courses or seminars in real estate law.

To be awarded to the students taking first, second and third place standing in contracts in first year.

Convocation Prizes
To be award to a student who has been enrolled full-time for all 3 years and has had:
- substantial and meaningful involvement in extra-curricular activities for all 3 years,
- an interest in the life of the law school and the well-being of classmates,
- a willingness to participate in discussions to advance opinions with grace and firmness,
- a sense of humour,
- satisfactory grades.

To be awarded annually to a student or students in the graduating class with an outstanding record in the field of criminal law.

To be awarded annually to a third-year JD (undergraduate) student (or students) on the basis of academic merit. This prize will be awarded to the student(s) standing first in the third-year class.

To be awarded annually to the student in the graduating class with the most outstanding record in the field of labour relations law.

Awarded to the students in the graduating class ranking second and third.
Prize: $350 (split)
This prize is presented on an annual basis to the recipient of the Dean's Cecil A. Wright Key, which is awarded to students who have displayed the greatest interest in extra-curricular work of an academic nature.

To be awarded to the graduating student who obtains the highest cumulative average over 3 years.

Convocation Medals
To be awarded to the student in the graduating class who, during their years of legal study, has exhibited the greatest interest in extra-curricular work of an academic nature, such as participation in the work of the Jackman Law Review, essay competitions, debate competitions etc.

To be awarded to the graduating students with the highest cumulative average over four years in the J.D./M.B.A. program.

To be awarded annually to a student(s) who has demonstrated outstanding performance in the mooting program and a strong commitment as both a participant and coach.
